Today, Thursday December 8, Countryside’s 3rd graders met children’s mystery book author David Kelly. Kelly writes the popular Baseball Mysteries and MVP series. The children have been studying his work in class, and it was really fantastic for the them to meet this beloved author!

Mr. Kelly emphasized that anyone can become a writer. He stressed that he was not a particularly good writer in elementary school. He told the children about the main elements that go into a mystery story. He also talked about how the writing process works. The thing he does most often is REVISE!

Questions to ask your child:
1. Was David Kelly the best student in school? What were some of the difficulties faced?

2. How did David Kelly come up with the idea to write the Ballpark Mysteries?

3. What did his editor say when he first sent her his book?
